Irish Road Trip Part V – Killarney to Cork to Dublin

July 22-24

The drive to Cork

Leaving Killarney, we headed for Cork via Kenmare and Baltimore a distance of about 230 km.

We stopped at Molly Gallivan’s Cottage & Traditional Farm. We toured the cottage, the farmyard, and experienced 5000 years of history on a 500m walk as advertised. We continued on through Turners Tunnels (hand hewn rock tunnels) before stopping in Baltimore and then reaching our final destination – Cork.

Cobh

Just a short 18 km from Cork is Cobh (KOHV), previously known as Queenstown until 1920, is a seaport town in County Cork. This was the final port of call for the RMS Titanic before she set sail across the Atlantic.

The drive to Dublin

This was the final day of our road trip, and we needed to cover the 260 km to Dublin airport to catch our flight. I was never so happy to turn in a rental car! Along the way we found one more stop – Dunamase Castle.

Good-bye Ireland, we will miss you
