Shoes on the Danube

This holocaust memorial contains 60 pairs of bronze shoes representing Jews who were shot and thrown in the Danube by the fascist Arrow Cross Party in Hungary. The Danube river’s level rose significantly while we were there as you can see.

Budapest WWII Remnants

The marker notes the boundary of the Budapest Ghetto which was established in Nov 1944. Reconstructed 30-meter section of the wall in its original location.

Buda side

We rented bikes for 24 hours to continue our exploration of the city. We rode over to Margaret Island (in the middle of the Danube) in the evening and explored the Buda side the next day.
